Artist's Biography
Artists statement: Growing up in Southern Idaho taught me to appreciate the land, people, animals, machinery and the strong work ethic of farm and ranch country. When at 5’5 my dream of an athletic career evaporated, I turned to art and worked hard to learn the skills to communicate visually. I believe that artists are made and not born. I work very quickly with painterly brushwork and color. My best work has been painted very spontaneously which allows me to maintain its freshness and spirit.
Starting out in advertising/graphic design has given me a love of simple graphic composition, and shape and of strong color, which I fell, gives my work impact and daring. I feel strongly the need for good drawing as I think that good drawing is the basis of good painting. I enjoy working with form and light, rarely painting a subject without a strong light source. This allows me to deal with a full range of values.
